Jazz mirambist Mika Stoltzman brings her world-renowned, boundary-defying Mikarimba ensemble back to Rockport. Hailed by the LA Times as a “high-wire jazz marimbist… an amazing, energetic performer ready for major exposure,” Mika Stoltzman, along with her musical and life partner, famed clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, takes the audience on a wild, invigorating musical journey that expertly blurs the lines of jazz and classical music.

Mikarimba, which also features the great Steve Gadd on drums, bass legend Eddie Gomez, and percussionist Duke Gadd, has built its reputation with a focus on deep, pulsing grooves and infectious arrangements. After touring together for several years, the group released the self-titled CD Mikarimba in 2010 which was produced by Steve Gadd with their unique interpretation of works from Chick Corea’s “Pixiland Rag” to Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the A Train” and Steve Gadd’s “The Duke.” In 2013, Mika released If You Believe with Steve Gadd. In 2017, Mika and Richard Stoltzman released Duo Cantando to wide acclaim, and included pianist Chick Corea and Boston Modern Orchestra. Additionally, her arrangement and performance of “Tokyo/Vermont Counterpoint” appears on Steve Reich’s album Triple Quartet (Nonesuch) and she appeared on Richard Stoltzman’s album Goldberg Variations (BMG Japan) and Jo Hisaishi’s Asian X.T.C. (Universal Japan).

Mika has performed Carnegie Hall nine times as well as the Blue Note (Tokyo & Nagoya) and the Cairo Jazz Festival. In addition to touring in 19 countries and 60 cities around the world, she premiered Marimba Concerto with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra and Kumamoto Symphony Orchestra. She was also guest soloist in the Kracow Philharmonic in Poland, and Szombathey Symphony Orchestra in Hungary. She has been performing actively with the duo “The Stoltzmans on Clarinet and Marimba” with Richard Stoltzman. They have been performing globally in New York, Boston, Austin, Buenos Aires, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Japan.
