June 3 @ 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm EDT

Victor Wooten, voted one of the Top 10 Bassists of All Time by readers of Rolling Stone magazine, will perform and lead a Masterclass on June 3 at Kean University. The event will support the nonprofit Institute of Music for Children. Wooten, a five-time Grammy winning artist, is a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has played with the Dave Matthews Band, and was the first electric bass soloist to appear with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. “In a time where school music programs are disappearing at an alarming rate, I thank the Institute of Music for Children for keeping theirs going. They will always have my support,” states Wooten. This Masterclass is appropriate for all levels and all types of instrumentalists.

Proceeds will go to the Institute of Music for Children, a nonprofit organization that provides music, dance, theater, visual arts, and multimedia programs to over 900 underserved students each year. Programs serve low-income Black and Latinx children ages 5-18 in Union and surrounding counties. The Institute provides highly subsidized tuition, internationally recognized teaching artists, bilingual supports, and a safe space for inner-city youth to meet.
