Marcus Strickland Quartet

About
Saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, and arranger Marcus Strickland has blazed a trail for 20 years as a charter member of the 21st-century jazz vanguard. Influenced by hip-hop culture, jazz funk, and Bach fugue, he’s shared album credits with Robert Glasper, Bilal, Mos Def, Roy Haynes, and Dave Douglas, and is equally at home in the worlds of classic postbop and neo-soul Afro-futurism. His own compositions are rooted in tradition as they define a new direction in contemporary music, demonstrated on two acclaimed Blue Note releases with his Twi-Life group, People of the Sun and Nihil Novi. Expect the unexpected for Strickland’s Hudson Hall debut, as he brings us a soulful mix of Twi-Life favorites, such as “Timing,” and a new spin on jazz classics. His quartet is anchored by his brother, drummer E.J. Strickland, with bassist Ben Williams and rising star Julius Rodriguez on keyboards.
