James “Blood” Ulmer has been cited by as an avant-garde guitarist. However, he is actually an authentic blues guitarist that draws upon the full spectrum of African American music, free jazz, soul, be-bob, avant-garde and rock. In addition to being a guitarist, he is a baritone vocal stylist whose lyrics come to life across his music. Playing on a Gibson Byrdland guitar, Ulmer’s sound has been described as “jagged” and “stinging,” complementing his vocal range.
Ulmer’s latest project, the “James Blood Ulmer Odyssey” stands as his signature masterpiece, the purest and most accessible showcase for his bold, genre-clashing guitar vision. Ulmer´s Odyssey presents a wide spectrum of free jazz, country-blues, psychedelic rock, slippery soul and sanctified funk. His Odyssey will consist violinist Charles Burnham and drummer Warren Benbow.
For both evenings, doors open at 5 p.m. James “Blood” Ulmer performs at 7 p.m. Doors for the second show open at 8:45 p.m. His second set starts at 9:30 p.m. Each set length is for 75 minutes. A full dining experience is available throughout either show.
