Dartmouth’s Coast Jazz Orchestra will share a double bill with jazz legend Carla Bley. The Coast will play a full set of Bley’s big band music, including excerpts from her great Brecht-Weillian 1970 masterwork Escalator Over the Hill – a rarely performed work. Bley’s daughter Karen Mantler, a pianist and composer who’s long been a mainstay of Bley’s big band, joins the Coast. Then, after a brief intermission, Bley herself performs with her trio – bassist Steve Swallow and Saxophonist Andy Sheppard.
