Bachelor of Music degrees are available in both Performance and Education, with emphases in classical and jazz studies. A Master of Science in Secondary Education with a Music concentration is also available.

The Department of Fine Arts hosts the Annual Alcorn State University Jazz Festival, now in its 35th year. Some of the very best musicians in the history of jazz have been guest artists through the years, including McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Louie Bellson, Slide Hampton, Ramsey Lewis, Clark Terry, Maynard Ferguson, Stanley Turrentine, Benny Golson, Rand Breacker, Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Arturo Sandoval, Freddie Hubbard, Terrance Blanchard, Joe Lovano and Kenny Barron. The Festival features performances by high school and university jazz ensembles from around the country, an educational workshop conducted by the featured guest artists, an evening performance by an all-star regional jazz ensemble and a concert by the featured guest artists.
