During the 2014 Newport Jazz Festival, JazzTimes set up a makeshift studio backstage inside Fort Adams. The rustic setting made for interesting visuals as well as some interesting conversations, accompanied by background music coming in from three nearby stages. In this set of interview segments, Tim Jackson-the artistic director of the Monterey Jazz Festival-talked about how he came to be involved with the festival, how he approaches the programming of the event and why education programs are important for the festival and the music. And he previews the upcoming festival, now in its 57th year.
