WBGO RADAR, New Service, to Stream Jazz Albums Before Release

First titles to air will be new CDs by Corea, McBride, Turre

Newark, N.J.’s jazz radio station WBGO (88.3 FM and has launched WBGO RADAR, a new online service that will give listeners an opportunity to preview new jazz CDs prior to their official release. According to a press release, “New recordings will be reviewed by the station’s Music Director, Gary Walker, and Interim Vice President of Content, Josh Jackson, every week … WBGO will debut these albums exclusively on up to one week before they are available for purchase.”

Listeners to can also pre-order CDs directly from Amazon, and a portion of those sales will benefit the station.

The initial schedule is as follows:

· Chick Corea-The Vigil (Concord Jazz), July 29-August 5; street date August 6

· Christian McBride-Out Here (Mack Ave.), August 2-5; street date August 6. (McBride will also perform at the WBGO Jazz Series at 54 Below on August 13 and at the WBGO Gala in November)

· Steve Turre-Bones of Art(High Note), August 13-19; street date August 20

· Albert Heath/Ethan Iverson/Ben Street-Tootie’s Tempo (Sunnyside), August 20-26; street date August 27

· Roberto Fonseca-Yo (Concord Jazz), August 19-26; street date August 27

· Geri Allen-Grand River Crossings (Motema), September 3-9; street date September 10

· Kenny Garrett-Pushing the World Away (Mack Avenue), September 13-16; Ssreet date September 17
