Unreleased Duke Ellington Session from 1970 Out in July

German recording was produced by Conny Plank

Duke Ellington

Grönland Records will release the previously unissued Duke Ellington & His Orchestra’s The Conny Plank Session on July 10. Plank was a German producer and sound engineer mostly known for his work with Kraftwerk, Eurythmics, Ultravox and other rock-related acts. According to a press release, “Myths abound about Ellington and Plank working together at Rhenus Studio in Cologne sometime in 1970. However, with each tale, the crux of the story is the same-Ellington listened to the takes and praised Plank’s work. Plank admired Ellington and received recognition from the right person at the right time.”

A sample track, “Afrique (Take 3, Vocal),” can be streamed here.
