The legacy of the late trumpeter and composer Tomasz Stańko will be celebrated at an all-star memorial concert on Sept. 18 at Roulette in New York City. Among the performers scheduled to play at the “Remembering Tomasz Stańko” event are Ambrose Akinmusire, Wadada Leo Smith, Ravi Coltrane, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Jakob Bro, Craig Taborn, David Virelles, Marcin Wasilewski, Dezron Douglas, Sławomir Kurkiewicz, Reuben Rogers, Gerald Cleaver, and Michał Miśkiewicz. Stańko, who would have turned 80 this year, died of lung cancer on July 29, 2018 in Warsaw. The trumpeter, profiled by Stuart Nicholson here in JazzTimes, had a long history with the ECM label, for whom he recorded more than a dozen albums.
