Tim Jackson, artistic director of the Monterey Jazz Festival

During the 59th Monterey Jazz Festival, scheduled for Sept. 16-18, Tim Jackson, the festival’s artistic director, will be presented with the George Wein Impresario Award, named after the legendary Newport Jazz Festival founder.

The award, which, according to a press release, “recognizes individuals who bring music to life through their dedication to discovering, mentoring, presenting and promoting creative musicians and their music,” will be presented by Larry Simpson, Berklee College of Music’s senior vice president for academic affairs/provost, on the Monterey festival’s Jimmy Lyons Main Stage, on Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m.

Past recipients of the award include the founder of the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival, Luis Alvarez; Umbria Jazz Festival founder Carlo Pagnotta and founder of the Jazz Workshop and Paul’s Mall in Boston, Fred Taylor.
