The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary from June 18-July 1. The festival features 1,800 artists from Canada and around the world. Three hundred performances will take place at 35 indoor and outdoor venues.
The festival this year features, among many others, Buddy Guy, Erykah Badu, Pink Martini, the Roots, Chris Botti, Snarky Puppy, Stanley Clarke Band, Tower of Power, The Bad Plus Joshua Redman, Lisa Fischer and Grand Baton, Renee Rosnes Quartet, Fred Hersch Trio and Dave Douglas & High Risk.
Downtown Jazz (June 18-21), on the grounds of the Vancouver Art Gallery, is expanding to include two more days of free concerts on the Georgia Stage, June 18 and 19.
South Africa Now! will make its debut at the festival. With the support of the South African Ministry of Art and Culture and the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, this new initiative will showcase Abdullah Ibrahim, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Kyle Shepard, Zaki Ibrahim and Freshly Ground.
One hundred fifty free concerts will take place throughout the city at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church, Ironworks Afternoon Sessions, Granville Island in the afternoons and at several venues on the North Shore. Along with Downtown Jazz (June 18-21) there are also free concerts during David Lam Park Jazz Weekend (June 27-28) and on four stages during Canada Day on Granville Island beginning at noon.
