The Jazz Education Network (JEN) named Sharon Burch as its managing director. Burch is the first full-time employee hired by the organization, which was created in 2009 in the aftermath of the folding of the International Association for Jazz Education.  She has served on the organization’s Board of Directors as secretary and also as chairperson of the JEN Education Committee.  In addition to her role as an education consultant with Jazz at Lincoln Center since 2013, Burch is also the author of six Freddie the Frog storybooks that aim to teach music concepts to children.

In a press release sent to JazzTimes, JEN co-founder Dr. Lou Fischer said, “Sharon’s long history with JEN gives her the experience and insight needed to make an immediate contribution.” He added, “From the ‘big picture’ to the daily operations, she understands what is required to ensure long-term growth for the organization.”

For her part, Burch said in the same press release: “I am very honored to assume this new role at JEN. It’s a privilege to work with the many volunteers, members and staff who share a passion to serve and share the music. Together, we will continue to expand the JEN network of support and resources for musicians, educators and directors at all levels of age and ability, building upon the vision of the original founders.”

Previously, the organization also hired Stephan S. Nigohosian as Marketing Communications Coordinator. Nigohosian is responsible for leading all of the organization’s traditional and digital marketing communications programs, public relations, ad campaigns, newsletters and social media/web content. He was formerly director of artist relations & publicity for Latin Percussion (LP) under parent company KMC Music Corporation. He was also director of artist relations for Gretsch Drums, Gibraltar Hardware, and Toca percussion under Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
