The SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco held its Joe Henderson Lab Dedication Ceremony on Aug. 14. The late Henderson’s two sons, Malcolm Daniel and Kim Vasquez, and grandson Saivon Romero-Daniel, traveled to San Francisco for the ceremony. The Joe Henderson Lab is a 100-seat performance and education space at the SFJAZZ Center named for the longtime Bay Area resident.

The ceremony kicked off the Joe Henderson Festival from August 14-17. The first night featured Henderson collaborator Mel Martin presenting the music of Henderson’s 1963 debut, Page One album.
