On October 12, veteran jazz keyboardist Ramsey Lewis will be awarded with the inaugural “Joie de Vivre” celebration and lifetime achievement award by downtown Chicago’s senior living community, the Clare at Water Tower. The award is described as “a symbol of success and respect among the Chicago senior community … [that] recognizes individuals who have experienced the ‘joy of living’ by helping others through their work and community activities.”
Lewis, according to a press release, “has made significant contributions to the city of Chicago by helping to create more opportunities for the city’s youth. He continues to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Merit School of Music, an inner city music program in downtown Chicago as well as on the Board of Trustees of the first public high school for the performing arts in Chicago, the Chicago High School for the Arts, and is a member of Loyola University Chicago Council of Regents.”
