Pianist Tigran Awarded Vilcek Prize

$35,000 cash award to raise awareness of immigrant contributions

Tigran Hamasyan

Tigran, an Armenian-born pianist, composer and vocalist, has been named the winner of a 2013 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Contemporary Music. He will receive a $35,000 cash prize. The award is given by the nonprofit Vilcek Foundation organization, which is dedicated to raising awareness of immigrant contributions to the arts and sciences. The award recognizes outstanding early career achievements by immigrant artists and scientists. Tigran is being recognized alongside Yo-Yo Ma, recipient of the Vilcek Prize for Contemporary Music, and the other winners of the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise: songwriter James “Jhart” Abrahart, and hip-hop artist Blitz the Ambassador.
