This year’s Jazz @ the Point Festival, which South Jersey Jazz Society presents each year in Somers Point, New Jersey, will feature a Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Pat Martino. Taking place November 3-6, close to the first anniversary of Martino’s death, it will spotlight musicians who collaborated or otherwise interacted with the legendary guitarist across his 50-plus-year career.
Martino died November 1, 2021 at age 77, after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The Celebration will feature organist Pat Bianchi, drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts, and Martino’s fellow guitarists Sheryl Bailey, Peter Bernstein, Paul Bollenback, Jimmy Bruno, Russell Malone, Dave Stryker, and Mark Whitfield, among others.
The nights of November 4-5 during the Celebration—which will also feature a video presentation and a keynote speech from writer Bill Milkowski—will be live-streamed from Somers Point’s Gateway Playhouse.
