Mosaic Records has announced the June release of Woody Shaw’s The Complete Muse Session. The seven-CD boxed set includes the trumpeter, flugelhornist and cornetist’s entire output for the Muse label, nine albums in all, beginning with his 1974 debut, The Moontrane, to his final recording for the label, Imagination, recorded in 1987. It also includes a recording made for Blue Note in 1965 that was later re-released by Muse. The new set follows Mosaic’s earlier release of all of Shaw’s Columbia Records output. The package includes liner notes by the late musician’s son, Woody Shaw III, who also co-produced it.
