Miles Davis Boxed Set from 1967 Shows Due

Acoustic European dates featured Miles’ “second great Quintet”

Miles Davis 1967

Columbia/Legacy Recordings will release, on September 20, The Miles Davis Quintet Live in Europe 1967: The Bootleg Series Vol.1. The three-CD/one-DVD package presents audio of full-length concert sets in Antwerp, Copenhagen and Paris while the DVD, including concert sets in Karlsruhe and Stockholm, is the only known video documentation of Davis’ “second great Quintet” from 1965 to ’68. That group included, in addition to Miles, Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Tony Williams (drums).

Much of the music is previously unreleased or is being issued in an official capacity for the first time. The 50-minute Danish set is the rarest of the three, never released commercially (not even as a bootleg). The Paris concert is the longest of the shows in this collection, running 90 minutes. It includes the very rare versions of “Agitation” and “Footprints” which are not found on the unauthorized bootlegs that have circulated up until now.
