Jazz St. Louis will host a memorial concert for Richard McDonnell, the owner of the MAXJAZZ record label who passed away on Feb. 8, at Jazz at the Bistro, on May 25. McDonnell was a long-time board member of Jazz St. Louis. The concert will feature a headlining performance by MAXJAZZ artists Terell Stafford, Bruce Barth, Tim Warfield and Carla Cook, joined by St. Louis’s Montez Coleman and Bob DeBoo, starting at 7:00 PM. Many St. Louis-based artists, including Good 4 the Soul, Jesse Gannon, Cheryl Brown, Funky Butt Brass Band, the Gene Dobbs Bradford Blues Experience, the Phil Dunlap Quintet, and others, will be performing throughout the day, beginning at 1:00 p.m., leading up to the headlining set.
Brilliant Corners, the first band to record on the MAXJAZZ label, will also be performing. The concerts are general admission, free, and open to the public. A suggested donation of $25 can be made at the door to Jazz St. Louis in honor of Rich McDonnell.
