The Village Vanguard, New York’s legendary jazz club, closed its doors indefinitely in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, three short weeks after its 85th birthday. On June 13, however, the storied club returns to life as a streaming platform, with artists performing for an exclusively online audience.
The Vanguard will begin livestreaming two shows a week, the first on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. ET and the second a Sunday afternoon matinee (by the same performer) at 2 p.m. Admission for each performance will be $7.
The June 13-14 performer will be the Billy Hart Quartet, with the drummer joined by tenor saxophonist Mark Turner, pianist Ethan Iverson, and bassist Ben Street. At present, programming has been announced for the following three weeks: the Vijay Iyer Trio on June 20-21, the Joe Martin Quartet on June 27-28, and Joe Lovano’s Trio Fascination on July 4-5.
Check the Village Vanguard’s website, Facebook, and Instagram for further information, including updates on future bookings.
