Columbia/Legacy has announced the July 30 release of three multi-disc boxed sets containing original albums by Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk and Weather Report, all of which were originally issued on Columbia Records. The contents are as follows:
Charles Mingus–The Complete Columbia & RCA Albums Collection (10-CD box set, Columbia/Legacy)
Titles include Tijuana Moods (RCA, 1957, double-CD), Mingus Ah Um (Columbia, 1959), Mingus Dynasty (Columbia, 1959), Alternate Takes (Columbia, 1959), Let My Children Hear Music (Columbia, 1971), Charles Mingus & Friends In Concert (Columbia, 1972, double-CD) and Epitaph (Columbia, 1989, double-CD). All tracks previously released.
The boxed set features liner notes by Sue Mingus, his widow.
The Thelonious Monk Quartet–The Complete Columbia Albums Collection (6 CDs, Columbia/Legacy)
Titles include Monk’s Dream (1962), Criss Cross (1963), It’s Monk’s Time (1964), Monk. (1964), Straight, No Chaser (1967) and Underground (1968). All tracks previously released.
Liner notes are by boxed set reissue producer Richard Seidel.
Weather Report –The Columbia Albums: 1971-1965 (7 CDs, Columbia/Legacy)
Titles include Weather Report (1971), I Sing The Body Electric (1972), Live In Tokyo (1972, first-ever U.S. release, double-CD), Sweetnighter (1973), Mysterious Traveller (1974) and Tale Spinnin’ (1975). The box includes seven previously released bonus tracks.
