JazzWeek Announces Awards for Jazz Radio

Kurt Elling, Dr. Jazz, ECM and HighNote/Savant among the winners in 13 categories announced during the radio organization’s annual Summit in Rochester

JazzWeek, a weekly online publication dedicated to jazz and jazz radio programming, announced the recipients of its annual awards for jazz radio during its Jazz Summit conclave in Rochester, at the same time as the Rochester Jazz Festival. Winners were announced in 13 different categories on Saturday morning, June 18, at the JazzWeek Summit’s annual awards brunch.

Kurt Elling’s The Gate (Concord Jazz) was named Record of the Year. The annual Duke Dubois Humanitarian Award was given to longtime jazz promoter and industry advocate Dr. Jazz (Bob Cohen) in recognition of his years of service to the jazz community. According to a press release received at JazzTimes, the Duke DuBois award “is given to an individual to recognize a long-standing commitment to jazz, jazz radio, jazz education and generous service to the jazz community.”
