If any further proof were needed that jazz remains an international phenomenon, the ongoing success of Jazzmandu, a jazz festival that takes place in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, should provide it. Formally known as the International Kathmandu Jazz Festival, Jazzmandu 2011 begins this Thursday, Oct. 20, and runs until Oct. 25. Among the highlights of this year’s edition will be a “Jazz for the Next Generation,” an Afro-Latin jam and a jazz bazaar.
This year’s Jazzmandu fest features artists from nine countries, including Nepal, the U.S., Switzerland, India and Australia. Scheduled to perform are Nick Aggs (Australia), the Cuban League (USA), Bconnected (Switzerland), the Window Seat (India), Neighbourhood (Sweden), the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory (KJC) Faculty (members from Nepal, UK, Korea, Australia), the Cadenza Collective (Nepal) and the Nepali bands Robin Lal Eastern Classical Trio and Ghandarva.
