Jazz Journalists Association Announces 2012 Award Winners

Sonny Rollins, Amiri Baraka and more are big winners at annual event

The 2012 Jazz Journalists Association Awards were announced during a two-hour gala presentation yesterday at the Blue Note in Manhattan. Big winners included Horace Silver (Lifetime Achievement in Jazz), Amiri Baraka (Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Journalism) and Sonny Rollins, who won three awards: Musician of the Year, Tenor Saxophonist of the Year and Record of the Year for Road Shows, Vol. 2 (Doxy/Emarcy). JazzTimes won Jazz Periodical of the Year.
