Since 2012, Jazz at Lincoln Center has provided jazz fans around the world with free online access to livestreams of hundreds of its concerts from Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York. Now Jazz Live, a new app created by JALC in collaboration with KISWE Mobile for iOS and Android mobile devices, adds further dimensions to that experience.
Jazz Live enhances livestream concert viewing by giving users the ability to change what they see. Controls in the app enable fans to switch between multiple camera views, allowing a kind of access to performances that is practically impossible onsite.
Besides the livestreaming enhancements, the Jazz Live app introduces exclusive new interactive educational content. JLCO (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra) Play Along videos that were previously available only to band directors taking part in JALC’s Essentially Ellington program are now available to all app users. These videos, designed for big-band musicians, were shot with 12 cameras, so viewers can watch closeups of each section of the ensemble as it plays the six selections in the 2020 Essentially Ellington repertoire.
In May of 2020, JALC will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Essentially Ellington High School Band Competition & Festival, and viewers will also be able to watch all that festival’s events on the Jazz Live app.
Jazz Live is free and can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
