New Orleans trumpeter and bandleader Irvin Mayfield is releasing his first album of holiday music, A New Orleans Creole Christmas. The album is Mayfield’s 12th on New Orleans’ Basin Street Records. The album, which features the New Orleans Jazz Playhouse Revue, blends traditional-style with gospel-inspired versions of “Silent Night” and “Winter Wonderland,” as well as favorites such as “The Christmas Song” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Michael Watson sings on “Christmas Time is Here.”
A New Orleans Creole Christmas was recorded at Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
