Harlem’s Lenox Lounge to Close After 70 Years

Club hosted Billie Holiday, Miles, Coltrane and more

Harlem’s Lenox Lounge, a jazz club that opened in 1942 and hosted such giants as Billie Holiday, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, will close at the end of the month. According to published reports, owner Alvin Reed decided to shutter the club rather than acquiesce to the landlord’s demand for a $20,000 monthly rent, twice what the club pays now.
