Music students at Kenmore East High School in Tonawanda, N.Y., will perform a new composition custom-written for them by Grammy-winning saxophonist/keyboardist Gordon Goodwin. The students won the opportunity to have Goodwin write an original piece of music through a contest sponsored by Telarc Records and Alfred Publishing in support of Gordon Goodwin and the Big Phat Band’s most recent release, That’s How We Roll.

The school band plans to perform a special concert to premiere this new piece, titled “I’m Cooler Than I Look (A Band Geek’s Credo),” on May 24 in Buffalo, N.Y., with Goodwin and the Army Jazz Ambassadors. This event will include clinics for the band students during the day, a master class for the community with Goodwin, followed by the concert.
