Highlights in Jazz has honored a living jazz legend annually since 1974 for their “matchless musical achievements.” Previous honorees have included Lionel Hampton, Roy Eldridge, Frank Wess, Roy Haynes, Maxine Sullivan, Hank Jones, Sonny Fortune and Dr. Billy Taylor.

Kleinsinger, a former assistant attorney general for the State of New York, has been presenting jazz concerts continuously since 1973.
