A free concert paying tribute to the late saxophonist James Moody will take place tomorrow, July 29, in Lincoln Park, Newark, N.J., beginning at 11 A.M. Hosted by Shelia Anderson and Amiri Baraka, the show will feature Bill Charlap, Todd Coolman, Jon Faddis, Antonio Hart, John Lee, Lewis Nash, Jimmy Owens and Renee Rosnes.
Also performing will be the NewArkestra, Featuring Steve Colson, Gene Ghee, Eugene Goldston, Carlos Francis, Rene McLean, Takashi Otsuka, Al Paterson, Steve Phillips, Billy Phipps and Charisa Rouse aka ‘Violin Diva.”
The concert is part of the 6th Annual Lincoln Park Music Festival: A Celebration of Spirit and Dance, which begins today and continues through Sunday, July 31. The event is presented in conjunction with Smithsonian Institute Affiliate Program, National Portrait Gallery, Newark Arts Council & Remy Martin.
In addition to the free music, a photography exhibit celebrating Moody’s will also be on display.
