Pianist, composer, blogger and New England Conservatory (NEC) faculty member Ethan Iverson will be hosting a free master class on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. in NEC’s Brown Hall, located at 290 Huntington Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts.

The class will also be taught by drummer and fellow NEC faculty member Billy Hart, as well as bassist and NEC alumnus Ben Street. In addition to the class, the group will perform at the Beantown Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.

“After visiting NEC recently I was impressed with the level of students and the general commitment to searching out creative music. Teaching is something I’ve been more and more attracted to recently: It is a natural outgrowth of my blog Do the Math. At NEC I expect to grow personally and artistically alongside the students,” Iverson said, in a press release.

Iverson is best known for his work with the trio the Bad Plus, as well as his work with the Billy Hart Quartet. The Jazz Journalists Association named his blog Do the Math, the 2016 Jazz Blog of the Year.
