Dr. Billy Taylor Street Naming Ceremony to Take Place June 21

Harlem block is where pianist lived with his family

Dr. Billy Taylor, New York City circa 1947

A New York City block, East 138th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues, will be named after the late pianist Dr. Billy Taylor in a ceremony to be held there on June 21. Taylor raised his family at the Riverton Houses in this neighborhood.

The street-naming ceremony will take place from 4-6 p.m.

The event takes place just weeks after another Manhattan street was named after Miles Davis.
