Sounds and Silence, a documentary film profiling ECM Records founder and producer Manfred Eicher, will be screened September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the IFC Center, 323 Avenue of the Americas (at West 3rd) in New York City. Filmmakers Peter Guyer and Norbert Wiedmer spent five years following Eicher to sessions, concerts and festivals.
Featured musicians include Arvo Pärt, Eleni Karaindrou, Dino Saluzzi, Anja Lechner, Jan Garbarek, Kim Kashkashian, Nik Bärtsch, Gianluigi Trovesi, Anouar Brahem, Marilyn Mazur and more. This documentary film won the 2009 Berner Film Prize and has been screened at leading film festivals.
A Q&A with Manfred Eicher and a reception will follow the screening. The DVD and CD soundtrack will be available September 13, and the Blu-Ray on September 27.
