JazzTimes, in association with Ropeadope Records and Shure, is pleased to announce the second season of Speakin’ My Piece, the online video series hosted by Israeli guitarist Dekel Bor. Premiering live weekly on Facebook and YouTube, the series will feature casual yet in-depth artist-to-artist conversations about music and life with some of the top names in jazz today.
Speakin’ My Piece will air Thursdays at 3 PM ET (with exceptions noted below) on JazzTimes‘ Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as on Bor’s and Ropeadope’s Facebook pages and YouTube channels. Season 2 begins April 15 at 1 PM ET, when Bor chats with drummer, pianist, and composer Jack DeJohnette. Future guests will include Ben Wendel, Jeremy Pelt, Vijay Iyer, Melissa Aldana, Billy Hart, Christian Sands, and Eric Harland. Past episodes will be archived on the JT website. Further episode dates will be announced soon.
Dekel Bor, son of the Israel Philharmonic’s principal percussionist Alon Bor, studied at Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts alongside Avishai Cohen, Eli Degibri, and others before heading to the Royal Danish Academy on a full scholarship. He eventually moved to New York City, where he performed with a wide range of jazz artists, including Reggie Workman, Roy Hargrove, Donny McCaslin, and Ari Hoenig. Then, in August 2015, he nearly lost his life in a motorcycle accident. His recovery took years, during which he had to relearn his instrument. But his path back to playing shape is now complete, as evidenced by his first album as a leader in more than a decade, Let Love Rule, released in June of 2020.
