Applications are open for the 2021 edition of the DCJazzPrix, the international jazz band competition of the DC Jazz Festival.
The DCJazzPrix consists of a $15,000 cash award, along with a year’s worth of professional assessment and promotion benefits, including career strategies, a paid engagement at New York City’s TriBeCa Performing Arts Center, and a paid main-stage appearance at the 2022 DC Jazz Festival.
A unique competition within the jazz community, the DCJazzPrix focuses on working bands, giving weight to such elements as synergy and interaction. A core requirement for contestants is to provide evidence that the band has been performing together for at least three consecutive years prior to the time of application.
The 2020 winner, Washington, D.C.’s EJB Quartet, led by saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed, will be a featured performer at the 2021 DC Jazz Festival in September as part of its award.
The entry fee for the DCJazzPrix is $25. Visit the DCJazzPrix page at the DC Jazz Festival’s website for information on submission guidelines and requirements.
