Having had considerable success with their New York-focused festival in April, the team of artists-turned-impresarios known as Live from Our Living Rooms is expanding beyond the five boroughs and partnering with the DC Jazz Festival (whose June programming was pre-empted by the coronavirus pandemic) for a nine-day online jazz event. “DC JazzFest from Home” will be held from June 21–29 through LFOLR’s Crowdcast platform.

Each of the nine days will feature two livestreamed concerts. The programming includes such world-renowned headliners as tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland, vibraphonist Warren Wolf, the father-and-son team of bassist John Clayton and pianist Gerald Clayton, and others. In addition, in keeping with the DCJF’s mission of spotlighting local artists, several members of D.C.’s formidable jazz scene will also perform, including bassist Tarus Mateen, violinist Chelsey Green, and vocalist Aaron Myers.

“DC JazzFest from Home” also features eight humanities-based events, including “Meet the Artist” interviews with festival performers, a master class with trumpeter Dave Douglas, and a kids’ storytelling session with vocalist Heidi Martin.

The events are free; however, as with the LFOLR New York festival, donations are strongly encouraged. Proceeds will go toward provision of grant funds to D.C.-based jazz musicians who have applied for emergency assistance during the COVID crisis.

Visit the Live from Our Living Rooms website for more information, including a full schedule and instructions for accessing the live streams.
