The Recording Academy has announced the 2013 inductees into the Grammy Hall of Fame, with a handful of jazz recordings making the cut. The latest crop of awarded titles include Charles Mingus’ album Mingus Ah Um, the Lennie Tristano Sextet’s Crosscurrents album and John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman’s self-titled 1963 collaborative album. Other inductees include Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five’s track “Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens,” Ray Charles’ hit single “Hit the Road Jack,” Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton’s original recording of “Hound Dog” and titles by James Brown, Son House, the Memphis Jug Band, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Little Richard, Richard Pryor, Whitney Houston, the Drifters, Elton John, Billy Joel, Flatt and Scruggs, and others.
The Recording Academy annually singles out historically significant recordings 25 years or older for inclusion in the Grammy Hall of Fame. The list currently consists of 933 recordings.
