Blue Note Records has set Feb. 14 as the release date for 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero), a live album by legendary saxophonist/composer and NEA Jazz Master Charles Lloyd. Named for the number of decades Lloyd has lived, the album documents his 80th birthday concert from March 2018, performed at the historic Lobero Theatre in his hometown of Santa Barbara, California. Joining Lloyd at the birthday celebration (and on the record) was his Kindred Spirits quintet, comprising guitarist Julian Lage, pianist Gerald Clayton, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland, as well as two special guests: legendary organist Booker T. Jones and bassist Don Was, who is also the president of Blue Note Records.

Requiem,” the first single from 8, was released today as digital audio. Blue Note has also put out a video of the song’s performance, which can be viewed here.

The full album’s release will feature multiple editions. There will be two standard physical editions, LP/DVD and CD/DVD, as well as a digital edition, all of which will feature the concert’s first set. The entire concert will be available in a limited-edition boxed set that offers the music in both 3-LP and 2-CD packages, as well as a DVD, a 96-page hardcover book, and two photo prints.

8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero)’s track listing for the complete performance is as follows:
