On June 6, bassist/composer Ben Allison testified before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce on the subject of performers’ rights and a proposed performance royalty for musicians for domestic terrestrial radio (AM/FM) airplay. Currently, Allison wrote in a newsletter, “The United States is the only developed country in the world not to guarantee such a right.” The hearing was titled “The Future of Audio” and featured a panel including the CEOs of Pandora, RIAA, NMPA as well as representatives from the radio industry.
