Paquito D’Rivera is a clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer. Born in Cuba, where he co-founded the legendary fusion band Irakere in 1973, he defected from his homeland in 1981 and took up residence in the United States. Since then, he has recorded more than 30 albums as a bandleader and worked with a wide variety of musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lalo Schifrin, Gloria Estefan, Anat Cohen, and Yo-Yo Ma.
