I’ve been working with Sonny as his website and new media producer since 2006 and during that time, have produced over one hundred short videos featuring the Saxophone Colossus and his associates. If all these videos were edited together, they would be the equivalent of a documentary feature about Sonny Rollins.
Some people have asked, why not do a feature documentary about Sonny Rollins? Of course I could, but I’ve chosen to use online video, and YouTube in particular, as the medium for my work. Although I love feature length documentaries, the simple truth is that there’s a much larger, global audience accessing online video. Since I started posting my work on YouTube, the over one hundred Sonny Rollins videos have garnered over three million views.
