The pianist Dan Tepfer was born in France to American parents and began playing piano at a very young age. Classically-trained as a pianist, he got his bachelor’s degree in astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh, and later came to the US to study at the New England Conservatory, where he expanded his knowledge and mastery of jazz. In recent years, he became immersed in the NYC jazz scene, leading his own groups and also collaborating with saxophonist Ben Wendel, as well as with Lee Konitz.
This video interview was done during the 2014 Newport Jazz Festival, backstage inside Fort Adams.
