The 14-year-old pianist Joey Alexander is set to release his fourth album as a leader – Eclipse – for Motema Music on May 4, 2018.  Having already received three Grammy nominations, Alexander is backed on the album by Reuben Rogers on bass and Eric Harland on drums, along with special guest Joshua Redman. Produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Director of Programming Jason Olaine, Eclipse features covers of John Coltrane’s “Moment’s Notice,” Ray Nobel’s “The Very Thought of You,” the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” the hymn “Draw Me Nearer” and Bill Evans’ “Time Remembered,” as well as six originals.

Motema Music has offered this premiere of Alexander’s composition “Faithful” to JazzTimes readers.

He says about the track: “‘Faithful is in 5/8 – I wanted to compose a song in an unusual meter to reflect the uncertainty of my family’s journey. I’ll never forget our struggles in Indonesia for opportunities to pursue the music, leaving Bali for Jakarta and then New York, only believing in what we could not yet see. By God’s grace I could play.  I hope my music brings hope and love to all who hear it.”
