The older brother of trumpeter Avishai Cohen and saxophonist Anat Cohen, Yuval Cohen is an excellent soprano and alto-saxophonist. Born in 1973, Cohen began playing alto at an early age. He served in the Israeli Army during 1991-94, playing alto with the Israeli Army Orchestra, and also served as its arranger and conductor. Cohen was in the United States in the mid-1990s, attending Berklee and graduating in 1997. He studied with Joe Viola, George Garzone, Bill Pierce, John LaPorta and Charlie Banacos. Unlike Avishai and Anat Cohen, Yuval moved back to Israel. However, he plays with his siblings in 3 Cohens and has also recorded with Anat Cohen. He leads his own quartet and tours with the duo Hamamura-Cohen. Yuval Cohen also teaches jazz improvisation in Israel (including at the Tel Aviv Conservatory) and is a lawyer. He is no relation to the pianist Yuval Cohen, who has played with the also unrelated bassist Avishai Cohen.
