Trey Wright

Trey Wright began playing guitar at age 15.  Initially inspired by the blues, Trey was exposed to jazz early in his development through private instruction.  At the University of Georgia, Trey studied jazz improvisation with pianist and composer Steve Dancz.

In 1994, Trey co-founded Athens/Atlanta based jazz band Squat.  The award winning group has been a featured artist at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, The Twilight Athens Jazz Festival and Harvest Midtown.  Trey produced six independent releases from Squat and the band has shared a stage with Medeski, Martin & Wood; Maceo Parker; Maynard Ferguson; The Charlie Hunter Trio and The B52’s among others.

Apart from Squat, Wright has performed with superstars Jimmy Haslip, John Patitucci, Corey Christiansen and Grammy Award winning sax-master Joe Lovano.  Playing with Steve Dancz, Trey has played at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the World Sacred Music Festival in Bangalore where they were given a private audience with the Dalai Lama.

In 2002, Wright completed a Master of Music in Jazz studies at Georgia State University and he is currently on faculty at Kennesaw State University and the Atlanta Institute of Music.

Trey Wright resides in Roswell, Georgia.
