Northern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble

A grant given the Northern Illinois University School of Music from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts in August 2001 (and continued annually) resulted in the formation of the Liberace Jazztet. The Liberace Jazztet consists of students from the NIU School of Music who are juniors, seniors or graduate level. The musicians are recognized as Liberace Scholars. Ronald Carter coordinates the highly rated jazz program at NIU. The NIU Liberace Jazztet has performed in Illinois, Missouri, California, New York, Canada and Peru. They recorded their second CD recently, Monkin’ Around. The current members of the group include saxophonist Patrick Terbrack, trumpeter John Moore, guitarist Larry Brown, bassist John Tate and drummer Shirazette Tinnin, with Terbrack and Tinnin being co-leaders.
