Nobu Stowe

Nobu Stowe (Nobuyoshi Suto) was born in Maebashi, Gumma, Japan. He started taking piano lessons at age 3 and composition at age 6. Stowe moved to the US to study Music (composition) and Psychology at University of California, at Berkeley. He then moved to Chicago to pursue graduate studies at University of Chicago. After receiving Ph.D. in Psychology, he moved to Baltimore to work as a ‘drug researcher’ for National Institute of Health. In Baltimore, Stowe formed the post-fusion unit TRIO RICOCHET. This trio performed at top venues, including Blue Note N.Y. (NYC), The Knitting Factory (NYC), Ars Nova Workshop (Philadelphia), An die Musik (Baltimore), Bohemian Caverns (DC), and Smithonian Institute (DC). Stowe has also lead/co-lead various projects exploring ‘total-improvisation’ (a la Keith Jarrett) collaborating with Perry Robinson, Badal Roy, Andrea Centazzo, Achille Succi, Blaise Siwula, Dom Minasi, and Lee Pembleton et al. Since his record debut in December 2006, Stowe has released “Brooklyn Moments” and “New York Moments” on Konnex (Germany), “The Soul in the Mist” on Ictus (USA/Italy) “Hommage an Klaus Kinski” and “An die Musik” on Soul Note (Italy). His next release will be “Confusion Bleue” on Soul Note. Stowe has been featured/interviewed on Coda Magazine (Canada), Jazz Colo(u)rs (Italy), Cuadernos de Jazz (Spain), Toma Jazz (Spain), Jazz.Pt (Portugal), Jazz & Tzaz (Greece), Jazz Tokyo (Japan) and Baltimore Examiner (USA).
