Michael Lampert

Born in Brooklyn. Started violin, switched to mandolin, and electric mandolin in high school. B.A. in music theory and composition at Drew University, Madison, New Jersey. Played with LA-based fusion band ‘Blue Fish” from 1982-1990. M.M in musicology from New England Conservatory, 1988. While in Boston, played with Ben Street, Thomas White, Jimmy Mover.

Relocated to Los Angeles in 1988. Worked as a freelance music journalist; played with his own trio and other artists including Lenny Carlson, Tom Bethke, Bob Applebaum. Private studies with Harry Leahey, John Carter, Charlie Banacos, and Iryna Orlova. Two records, Jacaranda and Blue Gardena on Sojourner Records. Schwab Mandolins produces a MLS Signature model electric mandolin, which he endorses.
