Kendra Shank

Kendra Shank has been described as “one of the most interesting, creative jazz singers of her generation” (All About Jazz) with a “delectable voice” (Time magazine) and “breathtakingly original concept” (Boston Globe). Her 5 critically acclaimed albums have won numerous “Best of the Year” awards and DownBeat poll recognition and she has toured in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Canada and the U.S., with performances at The Blue Note, Village Vanguard, Birdland, JVC Jazz Festival, Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne Festival, Jazz in Marciac Festival, Calgary Jazz Festival, Edmonton Jazz Festival, and Jazz Port Townsend Festival, among many others. In addition to leading her New York quartet of 12 years with Frank Kimbrough, Dean Johnson, and Tony Moreno, she has performed and/or recorded with Abbey Lincoln, Bob Dorough, Jay Clayton, Fred Hersch, Geoffrey Keezer, Gary Bartz, Victor Lewis, Peter Leitch, Mark Lamb Dance, and many others. Kendra Shank’s eclectic mix of jazz originals, standards, world, folk/pop, and open improvisation is unified by her fluid “sound painting” approach to creating in-the-moment music with her ensemble.
